How Bear Claw began

Bear Claw Casino first opened in 1993 on the White Bear First Nations, near Carlyle. After three months of operation, the provincial government closed it and pressed charges through the court system. The casino describes that period, in its own words, as "a highly contentious and emotional part of history between First Nations and the provincial government regarding gaming".

Reopening came in November 1996, the same year Gold Eagle, Northern Lights and Painted Hand opened. On July 1, 2010, Bear Claw Hotel opened as SIGA's first destination resort. In its own description, Bear Claw Casino & Hotel is SIGA's most historic casino.
